Reader says Ocean Ice Place math easy to get

Well over a year ago, our Brick Township Council informed us that the purchase price for the ice rink was to be $5.2 million. Can this be any simpler?

Apparently this figure cannot sink into the mind of Brick resident Joe Lamb, who has made a pilgrimage to the council chambers podium numerous times challenging the mayor and council concerning the price.

Lamb states that his means of gainful employment is that of being a certified public accountant, or CPA. I always thought that a CPA knew how to get a correct bottom-line figure without asking the same questions time and time again. He always received the same answers from the mayor and council but apparently cannot get it to sink in. I have sat there many nights while he has been informed of the same dollar amount of $5.2 million, which has never changed. I have to ask why he does not seem to hear that same amount?

In my time I have purchased many properties for "x" amount of dollars and then spent additional money for improvements. This has never changed the figure on the purchase price, which has always remained the same. Repairs and improvements are listed in another column, as Joe knows. I say this because he is a CPA. This is something that I'm finding hard to realize after hearing him last week in council chambers spewing the same rhetoric once more. When will it end?

Everyone who attended theMay 6 Brick council caucus meeting, including dozens of supporters in favor of the purchase, noticed that Lamb was nowhere in sight. Where was Joe Lamb when so many Brick citizens spoke on behalf of the new Civic Center? He would have received an earful, for sure.

Brick now has a mayor who cares about out quality of life and is willing to put his political career on the line for us. Thank you Steve Acropolis, along with the members of the council. You have made a senior very happy.
