      Township baseball already looking forward to next season
            Asking first baseman Ray Johnson about the baseball season at Brick Township is like asking about root canal. It's a painful question. "We had a lot of close games where we were on the wrong side," said Johnson, referring to how the Green Dragons were a hit away in many losses. "It comes down to rising to the situation.             Long jumper and sprinter Ryisha Boyd of Brick Township High School's girls track and field team is making an official visit to the University of Illinois this week, after getting an invitation only a few days ago. She already has taken official visits to the University of South Florida and the University of North Carolina.

            Kristen Hayes of Brick is eager for the next collegiate bowling season at Adelphi University on Long Island. The freshman who came aboard the brand-new program as part of a big recruiting push has helped it become a force for the future when she earned the first individual conference tournament honors in the program's history.

      Mullins finishes baseball career at U. of Pittsburgh
            Nick Mullins of Brick plays with a strong will to win, but even his willpower was not enough for the University of Pittsburgh's baseball team which wrapped up its struggling season last weekend. The Panthers ended 19-34 after dropping a Sunday doubleheader to the University of Connecticut.

      Mustangs baseball going for another OCT title

            Brick Memorial High School's baseball team, which plays Toms River South this weekend in the Ocean County Tournament, has been in three other county tournament finals and won all three. The game will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lakewood Blue Claws' home field of First Energy Park in Lakewood.
