Greenwood Lane man charged with assault

BRICK TOWNSHIP - A Greenwood Lane woman, who was shot in the neck and ear, was treated and released at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, over the weekend, police said.

Dana Kelly, 25, called police shortly after 7 p.m. on June 28 to report that she had been allegedly shot by her boyfriend, who had fled the scene in a silver Nissan Altima, police said.

Police launched an extensive search for Michael Metaxas, 24. Officers located him three hours later in front of the Riverside Deli on Mantoloking Road, about three miles from the house, Capt. John L. Rein Jr. said.

He was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Metaxas was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. He was lodged in the Ocean County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, police said.

Police are still investigating the shooting to determine if it was accidental or a result of a domestic dispute, Rein said.M

etaxas' parents and brother, who also live at the residence, were home at the time of the shooting, but did not witness it, police said.

Police recovered a handgun at the scene, which they believe was used in the shooting, Rein said.
