      American DanceWheels to perform July 12

      The Ocean County Library will sponsor a performance and demonstration by the American DanceWheels 3 p.m. July 12 at Toms River High School, 55 Hyers St.

      The program will consist of a performance of multiple dances, a discussion of wheelchair ballroom dancing and a minilesson presented by the creators of American DanceWheels, Melinda Kremer and Ray Leight.

      Kremer and Leight are the first and current U.S. Wheelchair Dancesport competition champions. They have been developing and performing wheelchair partner dancing for almost five years and have received national recognition for their innovative style, artistry and presentation.

      The International Paralympics Committee has recently recognized wheelchair Dancesport as an international Paralympics sport. Tens of thousands of people compete in wheelchair ballroom dancing internationally.

      American DanceWheels is an artistic organization that trains individuals with disabilities, their able-bodied partners, ballroom dance teachers, and occupational and physical therapists the art of wheelchair ballroom dancing. For more information visit www.americandancewheels.org.
