      Politicians' campaign promises lack substance

Prior to elections, our mailboxes, telephones, television, etc., are inundated with promises from potential aspirants to various office to sincerely represent the best interests of their constituents. But after a successful campaign and securely ensconced in their vaunted goal, most politicians ignore the plaints and problems of their electorate.

Case in point: There was an article in a local paper regarding the callous, inconsiderate treatment of some enlisted men and their families. Because I have a grandson in the service, I am personally concerned to the point that I corresponded to the following elected officials for their thoughts and possible remedial action to be considered to improve the plight of those protecting our freedom.

I sent correspondence to President George W. Bush, Rep. Christopher M. Smith, Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg, Sen. Robert Mendez, Gov. Jon S. Corzine, state Sen. Andrew R. Ciesla, Assemblyman James W. Holzapfel and Assemblyman David W. Wolfe.

To date, not one of these elected controllers of our way of life have had the courtesy or evidently never felt the obligation to offer a response. After election, they just don't seem to care.
