Francisco Casado, the coach, again will have on the roster his daughter, Angie, who played an important part in the team's going unbeaten in the conference and earning its first region ranking last season.

      Multiple Brick National baseball teams prosper
            It's a summer for the ages for Brick National's baseball program. Along with its 12-year-old Majors All- Stars on Thursday winning only their second state title ever, the other one coming in 1990, its 10-year-olds also claimed what is believed to be its first state championship that same evening, both on gamewinning rallies in the final inning.

      Brunner has sights set on discus greatness
      BTHS freshman also competes in shot put
            When Katie Brunner grabbed the eighth and final spot at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions in the discus with a throw of 119 feet 5 inches in May, it was a special moment for her in many ways. For one thing, she is a freshman and that tremendous throw was called the best by any freshman in the quarter-century of competition in the MOC in the discus.

            The Ted Hendricks Foundation named its list of pre-season candidates for the 2008 Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award and Rutgers senior defensive end Jamaal Westerman was named to the list. Westerman is the eighth Scarlet Knight to be named to a Preseason Award Watch List heading into the 2008 season.
