      Big Brown doesn't disappoint at Monmouth
            This time, Big Brown delivered. In his first race since a disastrous performance at the Belmont Stakes, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness-winning Big Brown used a late charge to catch upsetminded Coal Play in the final furlong to win the $1 million Haskell Invitational presented by Vonage (G1) by nearly two lengths on Sunday at Monmouth Park.

      Brick legion team goes .500 this summer
            Brick Township American Legion baseball narrowly missed making the district tournament, but manager Jason Groschel, who also was the players' high school coach during their varsity season last spring, kept things in perspective for what was a productive five weeks in an 8-8 season.

      Benefit hockey game slated for this weekend
            Six Brick hockey players will help lead the Ocean County All-Stars against Monmouth County in the 11h annual Jim Dowd's Shoot for the Stars Foundation benefit game at the Red Bank Armory on Sunday. Faceoff is at 6 p.m Admission is $10 at the door.
