      Brick Township boys return many starters from a year ago
      Soccer team opens Sept. 13 vs. TR North
            About 60 players took to the Brick Township field last Friday for the start of boys soccer practice as the team looks to repeat last year's season when it made the NJSIAA and Shore Conference tournaments for the first time in a decade.

      Dragons had just two wins a year ago
            It was a trying season last fall for Brick Township's girls soccer team. Along with only two wins and some heartbreaking losses, there were injuries, and the father of one of the players — graduated sweeper Kaci Brannick — passed away.

      Youth cheerleaders get preseason practice as well
            Youth cheerleading teams got a dress rehearsal over the weekend for the upcoming Pop Warner Jersey Shore Junior Football League season when the Dragons and Mustangs teams had scrimmages over the weekend. The Dragons scrimmaged Lacey and the Mustangs scrimmaged teams from Manalapan as they prepared for this weekend's openers.

      Twp. field hockey goes into season with question marks
            Brick Township field hockey opened practice last Friday with many positions still up for grabs. "There are a bunch of question marks about who's starting but there are a lot of evenly matched girls who can do different things, which is nice to have," said coach Vern Hankins while preparing the Green Dragons for their Sept. 12 opener against Toms River North.

      Coughlin enjoys solid summer of baseball
            American Legion baseball is over, and players from Brick Township and Brick Memorial are starting to play fall baseball if they're not playing another fall sport. But there's been no break since mid-March for Matt Coughlin.

      Memorial field hockey looking for improvement in 2008
            Brick Memorial's girls field hockey team wrapped up double-sessions last week under second-year coach Courtney Richardson, who reports a large turnout of 35 tryouts in the early days of season than last year. "We are definitely making improvements," said Richardson. "Last year, my first year, we were 1-14-2 which was no indication of our season.
