Resident dismayed at fireworks finale Iwould like to know what happened to the three-in-one fireworks display that was promised on Aug. 28 at Windward Beach? I'm sure there were a lot of people at the beach. I know there were hundreds of boats sitting out along the beachfront. Boats started to arrive as early as 6 p.m., and I know that many people who live on the Metedeconk River invited guests and went through much time and expense, myself included, in anticipation of a large end-ofthe season fireworks display. I read in several newspapers that because two previously planned displays had been cancelled due to weather conditions, there would be a three-in-one on Aug. 28. What happened? At about 9:30 p.m. I started looking at my watch, and again at 9:45 p.m., because everyone at my house was eagerly awaiting and wondered what time they would start. At 9:50 p.m. the first rocket went up and by 10:02 p.m. it was over — all over! Everyone at my house looked at each other in disbelief. The three-in-one display lasted exactly 12 minutes. The fireworks display that we had just two weeks prior lasted 25 minutes, and it was fabulous — one of the best I had ever seen on the river. A lot of people go through a lot of time and expense when we know there are going to be fireworks at Windward Beach. Everyone can understand and has to live with it when at the last minute a display has to be canceled because of safety reasons, but after the public was told that there would be a great big display to close out summer, that's what should have taken place. I was actually embarrassed because I bragged about how great the fireworks were two weeks ago to people at home that never had the opportunity to see the Brick fireworks before. I looked and felt like a jerk. I know in the scheme of what's going on all around us in the world, this is small potatoes, but really what was promised should have taken place. I know the people in my neighborhood were surprised and very disappointed, as I'm sure were the people on the hundreds of boats that were parked on the river, too.
