Township workers should contribute to health care costs

The Transport Workers Union and the employees they represent have Brick Township confused with a welfare state.

Municipal, county, state and the federal government is already notorious for exactly that, but to have employees show up at a council meeting demanding zero contributions into their health care plans shows their total disconnect with the real world and their complete disregard for taxpayer hardships.

I don't know anyone, family or friends, in the private sector who do not contribute into their health care plan. My husband contributes quite a hefty share for our coverage. How the town employees feel they should be subsidized is frankly insulting to the taxpayers.

How about placing health care for town employees on a referendum? Why not let the people do the reform if our elected officials don't have the backbone to do it?

I think all town employees should start contributing more than one percent. One percent is not enough.

Anyone who thinks that unfair should quit and look for a better job. But then, why would they leave a welfare state? The hours are great, the pay is decent, vacation hours, sick days and holidays are outrageously generous and hey, let's not forget the health care benefits.

In the real world, just paying for health care is crippling families. Gee, I don't think town employees will be leaving their jobs soon; we can't even get them to retire.
