Father, son end up in county jail after struggle with cops BRICK TOWNSHIP — Police arrested a father and son at their home on Hudson Drive recently, after the son fled the scenes of several traffic accidents, according to the police report. Police arrested Jeffrey T. Schultz, 25, Brick, at 10:33 p.m. on Oct. 5 on Hudson Drive. He was charged with driving under the influence, refusal to submit to sobriety tests, reckless driving, aggravated assault, resisting arrest by force and possession of marijuana under 50 grams. His bail was set at $22,500, with no ten percent option. He was transported to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, police said. According to police reports, Schultz was traveling westbound on North Lake Shore Drive when he lost control of his car and struck a mailbox. Schultz continued driving, sideswiped a utility pole, then struck a tree head-on. He backed up, drove over a lawn, tore up the grass and fled the scene, police said. He began traveling west on North Lake Shore Drive. When he tried to turn left onto Highland Terrace, he lost control of the car, drove over a residential property, then struck a street sign, according to the police report. Schultz then traveled south on Highland Terrace and lost control of the car when he attempted to turn east, police said. The car left the roadway, drove up on a residential property and damaged some landscape ties before driving off the property and back onto Highland Terrace, according to the police report. Police followed the car to Hudson Drive, where they saw Jeffrey Schultz exit the Chevy Blazer and walk around the vehicle to inspect the damage. There was extensive damage to the front and passenger side of the vehicle, according to the police report. When police ordered Schultz to come toward them, Douglas K. Schultz, 54, came out of the house and yelled at his son to get inside. When police approached Jeffrey Schultz and took him by the arm, his father pushed the officer away. Jeffrey Schultz then broke free and also pushed the officer away, police said. Police found Douglas Schultz in the back yard of the home. He was arrested at 10:36 p.m., after a struggle with police, according to the police report. Douglas Schultz was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, obstruction, hindering another, hindering self, resisting by force and resisting by flight. His bail was set at $35,000. He was transported to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River. |
