Gertrude A. Ernst

Mrs. Ernst, 80, of Manalapan, died Oct. 10, 2008. Born in Bayonne, she lived in Jersey City before moving to Manalapan 20 years ago. Mrs. Ernst worked for New Jersey Bell/Bell Atlantic in Jersey City as a telephone operator for more than 30 years before retiring in 1989. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Teri Ernst of Manalapan; her daughter and son-inlaw, Joanne and Thomas McCarthy of Brick; and four grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Thomas More Church in Manalapan, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834-1365. Arrangements were by the Freeman Funeral Home, Manalapan.
