      Local soccer teams preparing for postseason berths
            Brick Memorial girls soccer team can wrap up a second straight Shore Conference A South championship but faces a tough week ahead in order to do it. Brick Township girls and Brick Memorial boys, meanwhile, face must-win situations this week to get into the Shore Conference tournament by Monday's cutoff and the NJSIAA tournament by next Friday's cutoff.

      Twp. football wins while Memorial falls
            Fumbles led to big plays that helped Brick Township's football team to victory and set the tone for a Brick Memorial defeat. John Applegate picked up a ball jarred loose from teammate Justin Kamen eight yards downfield and took it another 45 yards to the end zone, and Brick Township went on to a 28-14 victory at home on Saturday afternoon over Lacey.

            Former University of Maryland basketball standout and Red Bank native, Tahj Holden has been named the director of basketball operations at Monmouth University. The former Red Bank Regional star was a four-year player for Gary Williams at Maryland, and played in all 36 games in the Terrapins' 2002 NCAA National Championship season.

            Brick cheerleading and dance teams are not packing away their gear yet as nine teams from the Dragons and Mustangs programs advanced out of the Jersey Shore Junior Pop Warner segment at Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton on Sunday, three of them as first-place finishers.
