      Memorial football beats Howell in overtime
      Mustangs go to 5-2 going into off week
            Just like his teammate Brian Staub, Brick Memorial's Anthony Lepore finds different ways to help his team win games. This time, it was an 8-yard reception of a curl pattern pass from Staub on the Mustangs' first series in overtime that sealed a 24-17 victory over Howell to keep the Mustangs (5-2) in the running for an NJSIAA playoff berth.

      Gardner takes over as Twp. boys hoops coach
            Kevin Gardner was somewhat familiar with Brick Township's boys' basketball team after serving as an assistant eight years ago and coaching against the Green Dragons three times as Howell's varsity coach. So he has an up-close idea of what he faces when he starts practice in three weeks as the new varsity coach.

      Local runners to compete in Shore Conf. meet
            Megan Schenk and Ricky Bandejas of Brick Township's girls and boys cross country teams qualified for the Shore Conference championships after runningwell in the Ocean County championships at Ocean County Park. The Shore Conference meet will be held there on Thursday.

      Spinella makes the difference for Brick Township football
      Safety makes interception, returns it for touchdown in win
            Joe Spinella may not have considered himself a game-breaker in the past but he seized a golden opportunity for the Green Dragons as they came from behind to beat Jackson Memorial, 22-14, on Saturday. "They were driving and I got the ball (on an interception) and saw nobody in front of me," said Spinella.

            Two Brick Pop Warner football teams, the Mustang Midgets and the Dragons Junior Pee Wees, advanced to the league championships this weekend and three Mustang Pop Warner cheerleading teams moved to one step away from the national championships at Disneyland in Orlando.
