      Field fees would put soccer club out of business, BTSA prez says
            BRICK TOWNSHIP — One local soccer organization is crying foul over a proposed Board of Education policy that would impose rental fees for the use of its athletic fields. "The money you want to charge us will put us out of business," Ben DeVizio, president of the Brick Township Soccer Association (BTSA), told the Board of Education on Oct. 23.

            Shaquan Reed scored three touchdowns as the unbeaten Brick Mustang Midgets won the Jersey Shore Pop Warner playoff championship while the Brick Dragons Junior Pee Wee White team remained unscored upon while earning another title for the township over the weekend.

      Area harriers ready for sectional championships
            Megan Schenk of Brick Township is eager for Saturday's Group III, Section 1 cross country championships at Delsea after running a 19:24 for 35th out of 163 runners in the Shore Conference championships at Ocean County Park last Thursday. Ricky Bandejas, who runs for Brick Township's boys' team, was 23rd in 17:40.

            It's state tournament time for Brick Memorial's girls and boys soccer teams and Brick Township's boys team, but it's a familiar sojourn for Jordan Downs of Brick Memorial's girls team. A fifth year senior who started his college career with a medical redshirt year, Reddan said he feels he wants to give more to the team than he did a year ago when he played in 26 games, starting seven, but averaged 3.

            Monmouth University senior defender Angelo Amato's first career goal paced the Hawks to a 1-0 Northeast Conference victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday afternoon on The Great Lawn. The win, which was on Senior Day, improves MU's mark to 11-3-2 on the season, including a 5-1-1 record in league play, while the Knights fall to 9-5- 2 and 4-2-1 in the conference.
