      Memorial preps for another big wrestling season
      Mustangs expect many to make it to state tourney
            Brick Memorial lost some integral parts of its 22-2 team that won its sixth NJSIAA Group IV championship wrestling team last season but that hasn't dimmed the outlook of coach Dan O'Cone.       Brick high school hoops teams ready for new season
      '08-'09 campaign starts this weekend with two new coaches at BTHS
            Two new coaches will command the benches for Brick Township High School girls and boys basketball teams — Kristi McCullough with the girls and Kevin Gardner with the boys — when the season begins Friday. As for Brick Memorial High School, girls coach Reyna Petach and boys coach Ed Sarluca are ready for another season.

            The Twin County Thunder girls socer team will be sponsoring a Scrapbooking Day on Jan. 31 at the Herbertsville Fire House, 601 Herbertsville Road, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. The $30 cost includes a light breakfast, full lunch and dinner with snacks and bevergaes being served all day. There will also be a gift auction and scavenger hunt as well. No walk-ins allowed.

            Forty-two victories is a tough act to follow in high school wrestling. But state runner-up Steve Santos of Brick Memorial is ready and eager for the challenge again at 145 pounds when the season begins Saturday in the South Brunswick Dual championships.

      Icker, Abrecht pace Brick Memorial at bowling tourney
            On Wednesday evening last week, Kim Icker and Jess Abrecht took an uncustomary trip to Linden's Jersey Lanes with Icker's dad and it proved to be time well spent as their efforts helped prepare them for Brick Memorial's girls bowling team's championship performance in the Westfield Tournament.
