Officials should give up salaries and benefits

In this time of deepening economic crises, we all must make hard choices. Perhaps, if the members of our governing bodies such as the Township Council, Planning Board and the Board of Adjustment would lead by example and agree to give up their salaries and medical benefits as Councilwoman Kathy Russell has offered, then maybe our other public employees would be willing to contribute for a portion of their medical benefits.

Additionally, it might be a good idea for the mayor to reconsider the latest hires such as an assistant to our town administrator and an assistant to the recreation department. Are these positions and the salaries they represent truly necessary for the health, welfare and safety of all the Brick citizens?
