Reader questions twp. budget practices for 2009

Recently a letter was written by a Brick resident concerning the Brick "projected" budget for 2009. This is a projection that no one is able to obtain. The reason it's not available is the mayor doesn't want it scrutinized.

This projection was formulated by Mayor Acropolis, who as councilman, voted in favor of all the budgets for the past 10 years. If Councilman Acropolis couldn't see what was happening then, how can you expect that Mayor Acropolis knows how to put a budget together now?

This is the same Mayor Acropolis that wanted Brick to purchase a 50-year-old ice skating rink for a new community center and build a structure to house an indoor swimming pool. The mayor felt he had the cash flow then to finance the construction of this project over at least nine months according to projections, but now apparently feels he doesn't have the money.

Of course next year is an election year and you can bet that the tax increase will be well below the municipal cap of 4 percent that the mayor claims is the reason for the layoffs. The mayor should stop playing politics with people's lives especially over the holidays. This is another example of the mentality of this administration.
