            Familiarity is the key to success for Brick Memorial's girls basketball team, said senior guard Kathryn Lamastra, who poured in 24 points in a 46-36 season-opening victory over Toms River South in Shore Conference A South action recently.

      High school swim teams prepare for big season
            Shana Rodgers, a junior, recently broke the Brick Memorial girls record in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:13, as lowered times by every swimmer is the goal of coach Todd Estelle and the other three swim coaches in the township. "The 500 is one of our better events; we're very competitive there," said Estelle.

      Local hockey legend calls it a career
      NHL's Jim Dowd most recently played with Philadelphia Flyers
            It's been an unusual holiday season for Brick native Jim Dowd. After spending half of his lifetime on the road playing as a center with 10 National Hockey League teams, Dowd spent Thanksgiving with family and the last few weeks at home, including his 40th birthday celebration on Christmas Day.

      Bowling teams get off to fast start
            The Brick Memorial girls and Brick Township boys bowling teams headed into the holiday break with impressive second-place finishes in the second annual Toms River Roll With the Indians Tournament at Ocean Lanes, which make both teams formidable threats in Shore Conference A South and in the Brick Invitational Tournament to be held Jan. 17.
