Police officers respond to two incidents Monday BRICK TOWNSHIP - Police officers patrolled the hallways of BrickMemorialHigh School onMonday, in response to a textmessage that circulated among students over the weekend that warned of a possible shooting. An investigation found no credence to the message, but the police maintained a presence at the high school as a precaution, Capt. John Rein said. "It wasn't true from the beginning," he said. Detectives, the two police school resource officers and four or five other officers stayed at the school throughout the day, Rein said. "When school opened, we wanted to make a little more of a police presence," he said. "We didn't believe there was any credibility to the story." It's possible that a student or students may have seen officers walking through the school last week and overreacted, he said. The officers were there to check out the security cameras that had recently been installed in both high schools and middle schools, Rein said. Officers interviewed some students and staff members, but found nothing that appeared to be any kind of threat, he said. OnMonday, police also had to cordon off the area around Sandy Point Drive for four and a half hours, after a man apparently told his ex-wife he was going to harm himself, Rein said. "She couldn't make contact with him," he said. "He had gone home. He was sleeping throughmost of it.We had quite a fewofficers out there." |
