A.C. man arrested in two stabbing incidents

BRICK TOWNSHIP - Police charged an Atlantic City man with two counts of aggravated assault after Saturday night stabbing incidents at the Maple Leaf Estates.

Luis Lopez, 40, was also charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and unlawful possession of a weapon, police Lt. John E. Rein Jr. said.

Eight officers responded to the initial call at 11:40 p.m. at the condominium complex off Sawmill Road, he said.

According to police, two groups from neighboring units were arguing. Tina Voorhees, 19, Brick, allegedly struck Michelle Haynes, 18, Brick, in the head. The two women then headed back to their respective condominium units after the incident, Rein said.

Several people from Haynes' unit then went over to the unit that Voorhees had returned to, and they began breaking windows, Rein said.

Lopez, who was one of the men in the unit, allegedly reached through the broken windows with a pocketknife and began slashing the hands of those breaking the windows, police said.

"He slashed two people that were doing the damage," Rein said.

Michael Jeski, 19, Brick, was the more seriously injured of the two men, who were both slashed on the arm, he said.

Anthony Alexander, 29, Lanoka Harbor, was also slashed, Rein said.

Jeski was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by the Herbertsville First Aid Squad, he said.

"I was told it wasn't as bad as it looked," Rein said.

Supervisory police officers and MONOC paramedics also responded, he said.
