Police looking for witnesses to accident
BY PATRICIA A. MILLER Staff Writer

BRICK TOWNSHIP - A 64-year-old Point Pleasant man died last week in a three-car accident on Route 70, police said.

Antonio Delessandro was killed in the accident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m. Feb. 11 at the intersection with River Road and Riviera Drive, police said.

Delessandro was stopped at a red light south of Riviera Drive, waiting to cross Route 70 to River Road. When the light turned green, he began to cross the intersection, and his minivan was struck by a car driven by John Sarokhan, 86, of Wall Township. Sarokhan was traveling eastbound on Route 70 approaching the intersection when he went through the red light and struck Delessandro's vehicle, according to the police report.

Sarokhan's car continued southwest on River Road, then struck a car driven by Alexandra Christensen, 44, Point Pleasant. Christensen was stopped in the left lane at the time of impact.

Sarokhan's car continued traveling southwest, struck a curb, a guardrail, then traveled across the ramp leading from Route 70 eastbound to River Road, up an embankment, then struck a tree, police said.

Delessandro was trapped in the overturned minivan and had to be extricated by members of the Herbertsville Fire Company. He died at Ocean Medical Center.

Sarokhan was treated at the scene for a hand injury. Chrisensen was treated for a knee injury at the scene.

Traffic in the area was detoured for two hours. The Brick Township Police Department's Emergency Services Unit and MONOC paramedics also responded.

The accident is under investigation by Patrolman Jeffrey Lindquist and Patrolman Jay Lampiasi of the traffic safety unit. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the traffic safety unit at (732) 262-1140.
