Brick Morning Rotary hosts mayor, GSE Team On April 9 the Brick Morning Rotary Club hosted Mayor Steve Acropolis and the Group Study Exchange Team (GSE Team) from Australia at their breakfast meeting. Mayor Acropolis presented Michael MacQuillan, the team leader and a member of the Rotary Club of Chatswood, Australia, with the key to the township. MacQuillan reciprocated with the team banner, a book on theAustralian Outback and a CD of pop music by Australian artists to Mayor Acropolis. The other team members were Evan Burrell, Louise Duff, Matthew Moore, Daniel Odman and Sophie Stephen. The Brick Morning Rotarians heard a talk by the team members on the culture, geography, athletics and animals of Australia and each club member received the music CD. The purpose of the GSE Team program is to foster an understanding of cultures in addition to practical vocational knowledge the team receives from the Rotary Clubs and businesses they visit during their one-month stay in a country. A number of Brick Morning Club members provided transportation and lodging to the Australians during their three-day stay in Brick. The members of a GSE Team must be between the ages of 25 and 40 and may not be Rotarians but are sponsored by a Rotary Club. They arrive with one Rotarian who acts as the leader and helps them as needed. Usually a team has a common theme such as finance, marketing, etc. The Rotary District 7500 team that went on the exchange to Sydney, Australia, were all musicians. Next year's exchange will be withWestAfrica. Young adults who are interested in learning more about Rotary International should contact Brick Morning Rotary member Lorraine Griffith at (732) 920-6500. |
