Civil War encampment to be held Aug. 9, 10

For the fourth year, the Brick Township Historical Society will host the 61st New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment all day Aug. 9 and until noon Aug. 10 at the Havens Homestead Museum, 521 Herbertsville Road, Brick.

The Civil War regiment will have an encampment ona the property and will demonstrate drills and the firing and loading of rifles and other equipment. Included in the group will be a medical tent and a soldier acting as a doctor to demonstrate medicine and treatment during that era.

The event is free and the public is welcome to attend and observe. The museum will also be open for tours 10 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 10. For more information, call 732-785- 2500 or go to www.bricktwphistoricalsociety. com.
