Reader praises lifeguards, notes sand problems
Imust congratulate Donovan Brown and his entire beach and guard staff for the excellent job they do year after year for many years. We have been residents of Brick for over five decades, raised our sons here, and we were known as "the beach bums!"

We know the responsibility and endless work in being a great head guard and lifeguard, and we do appreciate all that has been done over the years. Sincere and special thanks go to all.

One objection that I did have this year, and I am sure many other beachgoers had as well, was on Brick Beach III. The sand was blown from the entrance/exit of the boards leading to the sand/beach side. We know it is no fault of the lifeguards or Donovan Brown and that it is probably due to the weather, winds and tides.

My husband, who is handicapped, had a difficult time stepping down to the sand, approximately 5 inches or more, losing his balance, and falling, which was embarrassing to him.

Fortunately, he did not get injured, but we did not attend the beach as often as we had planned with such wonderful weather. I had observed many other beachgoers, young and old, having the same problem, when stepping up or down to the boards.

As I stated, it's no fault of anyone. But I am asking if this can be rectified and included in the care of the beach chores, to have sand up and against the board walkway to make it easier for everyone.
