Catcher Pete DeRosa of Brick and teammates on the Cash 4 College softball team of New Egypt, which recently won their division in a Senior Softball USA arc pitch national championship tournament in Phoenix, have travelled to Fort Myers, Fla., to compete in the winter nationals tournament.

The team, competing in the 65 and over age division, had won all nine games in Phoenix and then clinched the championship with a 15-14 victory over a team from Salt Lake City, coming back from a 14-8 deficit. It also won that tournament five years ago in Las Vegas.

The team draws players from the New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware region. Cleanup hitter and short fielder Mike McLaughlin is from Cape May. Locally, shortstop Blace Kopalko is from Toms River and third baseman John Foraman lives in Bayville.

Erin Reddan, a senior at Virginia Tech, finished 20th in the NCAA cross-country southeastern regionals at Wake Forest in 21:34 to make the all-region team.
