            Youth wrestling hits its high point over the next week. Brick Recreation Mat Rats I look to defend its War at the Shore title on Sunday at Veterans Memorial Middle School when it takes on seven challengers, including Mat Rats II, Hazlet, Washington Township, Paulsboro, Nutley, Long Branch and Morris Knolls.

            Len Zdanowicz and Don Marino are expected to file applications for the head coaching position for Brick Township's football team as the job is being posted this week, according to sources close to the school.

      High school hoops teams qualify for postseason
            It looks like a long season for high school basketball in Brick, but no one is complaining. Brick Memorial's girls for the first time made the NJSIAA tournament and join the school's boys team after both made it last week, well before the Feb. 7 cutoff.

      Hockey teams on cusp of qualifying for states
      Cutoff date is Feb. 15
            Brick Township and Brick Memorial hockey continued to stay well in the hunt for a state tournament berth, but both had their struggles last week. Brick Township on Saturday fell to St. John Vianney, 3-2, when Brett Steinberg scored his second goal of the game just beyond Green Dragons goalie Ed Rafferty to fall to 7-5-2.

      DeMont leads way at weekend tourney
            Johna DeMont shot a Jackson Junior VarsityT ournament record 290 high game and a tournament best 670 series as Brick Memorial's girls won the tournament title handily, 2,488 to 1,986, over tournament runnerupManchester at Howell on Saturday.
