      Cut-a-thon to benefit animal shelter Feb. 15

      Hockey Club to host learn-to-skate clinic
            The Brick Hockey Club is conducting a learn-to-play ice hockey program on Saturdays from 5:10 to 6:10 p.m. through Feb. 14 at the Ocean Ice Palace, 197 Chambers Bridge Road. Learning to play ice hockey teaches the foundation of skating and introduces skill development and techniques. No previous skating experience is needed.

            The Coastal Jersey Parrot Head Club (CJPHC) will host a Mardi Gras celebration to benefit the Jersey Shore Animal Center from 1 to 7 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Sawmill Café, Seaside Park. Jimmy and the Parrots and DJ Jeff Allen will provide entertainment. The event includes a buffet dinner, a large gift auction, a 50/50 raffle and children's activities.

      'Winter Wonderland' skating event Feb. 7
            Save Barnegat Bay (SBB) is hosting a "Winter Wonderland" at Winding River Park Ice Rink, Toms River, 7-8:30 p.m. Feb. 7. The public is invited to meet the staff and leaders of SBB. There will also be a bake sale. The cost will be $12 for adults and $8 for children age 13 and under. Skate rental is $4. All proceeds will benefit SBB.

      Veterans' Foundation to offer scholarships
            Graduating high school seniors have until April 17 to submit applications and essays to qualify for one of two scholarships offered by the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation (NJVVMF). The scholarships, each in the amount of $2,500, will be awarded to those seniors who plan to further their education either at a college or university or trade/technical school.
