New dumping policies need some fine-tuning

While the new policies on dumping at Ridge Road do not sit well with me, I am also part of a conundrum. I am not only a home improvement contractor but a new homeowner as well.

Here's my story. The former residents left everything they owned in the house I bought. I had to empty all of their possessions before I could even begin to repair the damage in the place.

At first I had a 20-yard container, but that was quickly filled with all of their belongings. I then began leaving dressers and such at the curb for bulk pickup. No problems there, and I am grateful to the town for taking it.

A roommate moved in, and I quickly had to make the main bathroom useable. I loaded my van with the contents of the bathroom, and when I got to the Ridge Road facility, I was a little annoyed to find I could no longer leave my home debris there because it was being considered contractor debris. (This was Feb. 2, one day after the policy went into effect.)

It seems unfair that I am now lumped into a category that, while I am a part of, does not directly pertain to me. But being in the construction industry, I can understand how the town could come to this hasty decision. Every business has shady businessmen. I only hope they make an amendment sooner than later.

I would be more than willing to provide photo documentation or any means necessary to prove that what I dump at the town facility is from my own home and not off a job site.
