      Brick Garden Club to hold March 9 meeting
            The Brick Township Garden Club will meet 7 p.m. March 9 in the Cultural Arts Center, Herbertsville Road, Brick. The president will conduct a short business meeting to discuss upcoming events and trips for the club. The committees for the annual garden tour will also give reports.

      Auditions for Jersey Shore Idol to be held
            Open auditions for the annual talent showcase, "With a Difference," will be held 7:30 p.m. March 19 and 20 at Veterans Elementary School, Brick. Talent may include singers, dancers, musicians, comedy acts and specialty acts of all ages.

      Boating safety course dates scheduled
            U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 16-05 of Brick will be presenting "About Boating Safety" for the first time this year on March 14. Other classes slated for 2009 will be presented on April 4, May 9, June 6 and Oct. 3. Classes will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and all will be held at the Brick Civic Plaza. 270 Chambers Bridge Road, Brick.

      Ladies auxiliary to host gift auction
            The Laurelton Fire Company No. 1 Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual gift auction March 6 at the firehouse, Route 88 West at Olden Road, Brick.             Ocean County College, Toms River, is offering the following day trips. All ages are welcome. • Philadelphia flower show and lunch on the Moshulu, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 5 The fee is $129. • "Fiddler on the Roof" at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and lunch at the Theater Square Grill, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. March 12. The fee is $145.

            The Brick Township Policemen's Benevolent Association (PBA) will hold its 20th annual "Helping Hands Benefit Basketball Game" at 7:30 p.m. March 27 at Brick Township High School, 346 Chambers Bridge Road, Brick. Tickets are $2 for children and $3 for adults.

      Business sought for Spring Job Fair
            Career, Employment and Counseling Services at Ocean County College (OCC) is seeking businesses to participate in its annual Spring Job Fair to be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 13 in the gymnasium, OCC Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River. Participating employers will review applications, conduct interviews and hire prospective employees.

      Football scholarships to be awarded
            The Brick Township Junior Sports League will once again award The Anthony F. Mancino Memorial Scholarships to eligible Brick Township High School football players who will graduate in 2009, based upon academics and need. Tony Mancino was a football player on three Brick Township High School state championship teams in the 1960s.

            If you are out of work or want to change jobs, Ocean County College Career, Employment and Counseling Services sponsors a weekly job seekers support club. Meetings are held on Monday mornings from 9-10 a.m. in Room 104 at OCCs Center for Business Education and Training, 150 Brick Blvd., Brick. Admission to club meetings is free and open to the public.

            United Synagogue Youth (USY) of Temple Beth Or in Brick Township was the recipient of an award for the largest capital donation to Tikun Olam. The award was given at the USY International Convention, which was held in Washington, D.C.

      Ocean County College to offer Praxis Review
            Ocean County College will offer Praxis II Review sessions in March and April at the college's main campus on College Drive in Toms River. Reviews in general science, elementary education, social studies, middle school math and English language, literature and composition will be offered at a cost of $199 per course.

            The Ocean County Bar Association is accepting applications for its Memorial Scholarships, which are given annually to one or more Ocean County residents.             The Brick Flower Market is again offering its reuse/recycle program, which is designed to increase the life expectancy of the average vase, wicker basket, mug or assorted container. Its goal is to aid the recycling effort and to donate money to local charities.

      Brick Township Police Dept. Drug Hotline
            The Brick Township Police Department provides a "Drug Hotline" for citizens to report drug-related activity. The hotline was established as a means of providing the public with the opportunity to anonymously report drug activities in their neighborhood. It is answered and monitored by detectives assigned to the Drug Enforcement Unit. Messages are checked on a daily basis.

            The Jersey Shore Model Car Club will hold its annual stock car night 7- 11 p.m. March 20. Models from other racing series will be on display as well as racing memorabilia.             The Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund, Dulles, Va., is now accepting applications for its Freedom Alliance Scholarship. Deadline to apply is July 31. The scholarships are for children of U.S. service members who have been killed or permanently disabled in an operational mission or training accident. Students who may qualify are encouraged to apply early.
