      Friend's tribute to former Mayor Daniel F. Newman
            I knew Dan Newman for 44 years. He was a friend. We served together on the Board of Education many years ago and on the Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority more recently. You either liked Dan Newman or you didn't. But whether you did or did not, no one can deny that Dan was a leader ... a "take charge" kind of guy.

      Some schools should close as enrollment falls
            In last year's school budget, it was presented that because of declining enrollment in Brick Township schools (projected to be reduced by approximately 250 students — figures that the then-superintendent prepared), the district would close three schools. This was in addition to reductions in enrollment since 2003 of nearly 1,000 additional students.
