B-MAC to recognize pure acts of kindness

The Brick Township Municipal Alliance Committee on Alcoholism, Drug Abuse and Youth Services (B-MAC) will be rewarding high school seniors who have done good deeds with its Spc. Christopher M. Duffy Pure Act of Kindness award. Up to four qualified high school seniors may each receive an award of $500.

Eligible students must reside in Brick and must have made an impact on the life of others by performing a pure act of kindness.

The award is named in honor of Spc. Christopher M. Duffy, a Brick resident who was killed in action in Iraq on June 4, 2004. Duffy attended Brick Township schools and worked for B-MAC for a number of years, facilitating an after-school program for youth. He exemplified the spirit of pure kindness in his life, and also in his selfless and courageous service to his country.

This award recognizes students who independently demonstrate a similar spirit. A pure act of kindness is defined as a service performed for an individual (non-family member), group or organization without the expectation of any financial or personal gain. Any activity that is done for graduation requirements, Scouts, civic or service clubs or faith-based organizations will not be considered. Pursuing a post-secondary education is not required for eligibility. Applicants must submit a personal essay and a letter of verification, both describing the act of kindness and its impact.

Applications are available at the B-MAC office, located in the Brick Township Civic Plaza, 270 Chambers Bridge Road. Completed applications must be returned cby May 1. For additional information, call 732- 262-1107.
