Reader thanks departing school board members

Last evening at a meeting of SEPTA, Brick Township's special education PTA, I learned that this year three candidates for school board are running unopposed.

I happened to at one point had the honor of being asked to run for the board, but for personal reasons politely declined. I also declined because despite what they all say in public, it is a thankless, nonpaying, full-time job. I want to use this time to thank the board and every one else who has ever served.

For the returning members and new incoming members, I hope you can manage a budget that will, without question, be another hardship unless we get concessions that fall from heaven.

For Dr. Allen Atheras and Mrs. Cynthia McCarthy, I want to thank you both from the bottom of my heart. We have had our differences, but you gave your own time to serve the community for so many years, and others should follow by example. This year you worked with the new members and put in place an administration that we can all be proud of.

So on behalf of myself and my family, I want to thank you all for the time and effort that goes into helping all the kids from Brick and wish you well with your own families and careers.

Doctor, I'll be in soon. My foot hurts again!
