      Track, field coaches look forward to new season
            BRICK TOWNSHIP — Brick Township High School's girls outdoor track and field team opened its season with a 76-55 victory over Brick Memorial in a match-up of two teams with very young lineups. Brick Memorial's boys, meanwhile, rolled to a 107-29 victory over its cross-town rivals with a lineup mixed with seniors and underclassmen.

      BTHS girls softball starts off with mixed results
            BRICK TOWNSHIP — Brick Township High School's girls softball team wasted no time handing coach Ed Lowe his first victory, when Heather Figula's one-hitter and Emma Erbig's two-run homer in the first inning got the Green Dragons off to a flying start in a 9-1 season-opening victory over Manalapan last week.

      Boys golf teams looking to add more wins this season
            BRICK TOWNSHIP — "Play ball" resonated on ball fields across the state this past week, but two hearty teams of boys from Brick Township and Brick Memorial high schools had another catchword: "Fore." Golf season got under way recently and both teams share inspired but conservative optimism as they embark on a challenging Shore Conference A South schedule.

      Mustangs' Staub headed to Springfield College in fall
            BRICK TOWNSHIP — Brick Memorial High's baseball team heads down to Florida on Monday for three games in Fort Pierce. And one player who will really enjoy the trip and some time to relax is Brian Staub. The three-sport athlete recently decided on Springfield College (Mass.), his top choice from the start, for his college education.

      Brodeur making his mark at Duke University
            BRICK TOWNSHIP — Andrew Brodeur, a "regular" at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions in his four years at Brick Memorial High School that ended last spring, has made some great first impressions at Duke University. But they haven't come easily.

      Sports Shorts
            The 34th annual Ocean County fishing contest will be held rain or shine May 2. Registration will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at Lake Shenandoah County Park, Lakewood. Prizes will be awarded at 2:30 p.m. for the largest fish in a variety of categories. The fee is $2 for children and $4 for adults.

      Flounder action heats up
            Steady winds and April showers made it tough for most people who planned to get in the water this past weekend. Flounder fishing in the Raritan Bay is slowly turning up along with the ocean temperature. The Back Bay is also producing bass with about one out of five being a keeper so far. This is a great sign to kick off the bass season in the bay.
