      Jersey Shore PFLAG will meet May 13
            Jersey Shore PFLAG will conduct its monthly support group 7-9 p.m. May 13 at the United Church of Christ of Toms River, 1681 Ridgeway Road (Route 571), Manchester. The meetings offer support, education and advocacy for people who have lesbians and gays, bisexuals, transgender and intersex people in their lives. The group is not affiliated with any religious organization.

      Old Guard will host dance on April 26
            The Old Guard of the Point Pleasant- Brick Area will host its April dance 1-4 p.m. April 26 at the Old Guard building, 170 Duchess Lane, Brick. Those attending will be entertained by three hours of music by Wes Peters and the Old Guard, a 15-piece orchestra. The price of $8 includes cake, coffee and tea. Hot dogs and soda will be sold.

      Pop Warner will hold pancake breakfast
            Brick Memorial Pop Warner will hold its first pancake breakfast May 3 at the Laurelton Fire House, located on the corner of Olden Avenue and Route 88, Brick. The doors will open at 8 a.m. and the last serving will be at 11:45 a.m. Donations are $8 per person, $5 for children ages 4-9, and free to those under age 3. Tickets sold at the door will have an additional charge.

      'Paws 4 a Cause' will take place May 30
            The eighth annual 'Paws 4 a Cause" dog walk benefiting the homeless animals at the Jersey Shore Animal Center will be held from 1-4 p.m. May 30 at the Ocean County Park, Route 88, Lakewood. The rain date will be June 6. Water stations will be available for humans and canines along the trail. Pets must be licensed, have up-to-date vaccinations and be leashed at all times.

      NJ Stars information session will be held
            An NJ Stars information session will be held 6 p.m. April 30. The statewide program provides students in the top 15 percent of their graduating class the opportunity to attend a New Jersey community college for the first two years for free.

            The Diocese of Trenton, in conjunction with law enforcement agencies throughout the region, will host the 11th annual Celebration of Law Enforcement or Blue Mass 10:30 a.m. April 28 at St. Mary of Assumption Cathedral, 151 N. Warren St., Trenton.

            All branches of the Ocean County Library will be closed June 5 for a staff in-service training event and will resume normal branch hours June 6. The library website, www.theoceancountylibrary. org, and its databases will be available during that time.

      Flea market will have lots of stuff for kids
            A Kids' Stuff Flea Market will be held rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 9 at the Ocean County Park, Route 88, Lakewood. All vendor spots have been sold out. New and recycled kids and baby-related items will be available.

      Project Graduation will hold gift auction
            A gift auction and luncheon hosted by Brick Memorial High School Project Graduation 2009 will be held noon to 5 p.m. May 3 at Veteran's Memorial Middle School, 105 Hendrickson Ave. Drawings will begin at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $15 and includes lunch, dessert, soda, coffee and tea.

      Become a substitute teacher in two days
            The Department of School Relations at Ocean County College (OCC) is offering a two-day substitute teacher training workshop in May. The course will be offered from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. May 15 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 16 in Room 17/Library, Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River. The Registration Deadline is May 8.

      Armed Forces Day picnic slated
            Live music will be featured at an Armed Forces Day picnic and dance to be held 4-10 p.m. May 16 at the Point Pleasant Elks Lodge, 820 Arnold Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. Those bringing a donation to be part of a package being sent to Iraq, or those attending in any era military uniform may take $2 off the $12 admission. The fee is $6 for children 10 years and younger.

      N.J. Blood Services will hold blood drive
            New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS), a division of New York Blood Center, will conduct a blood drive from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 9 at the Ocean County Mall, 1201 Hooper Ave., Toms River. Qualified donors should be 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds, and be in generally good health. Donors must present photo or signed ID and know their social security number.

      Garden Club will visit Morris Arboretum
            The Brick Garden Club is sponsoring a trip to the Morris Arboretum of The University of Pennsylvania on June 2. The trip includes a 1 1/2 hour docent tour and a gourmet sandwich lunch in a reserved tent area. The cost for the bus, admission and tour is $50.
