      Green Dragons softball team bound for states
            One Brick team with strong hopes of getting into the NJSIAA tournament came into this week with its back to the ball, and another that hadn't made it in five years secured its spot. The Brick Township High School girls softball team secured its spot with four victories last week to hike its record to 9-5 with four games left to the May 8 cutoff for the NJSIAA Tournament.

      Brick Nat'l, American teams ready and eager
            Despite the soggy spring that has reduced baseball schedules, Brick National and Brick American players will be ready and eager to take the FirstEnergy Park Field in Lakewood at 9 a.m. Sunday for the annual Brick Day game. "It's always a competitive game," Brick American President Tom Nerney said.

      High school Challenger programs ramp up sports
            BRICK TOWNSHIP — Special-needs high school students are getting a chance to play various sports for their schools in Ocean County. A new Challenger baseball league has taken hold at the 14 high schools around Ocean County.

      Brick Memorial Mustangs football players shaping up for fall
            Anthony D'Elia is busily preparing for his college football career at Monmouth University as one of 14 players graduating from Brick Memorial High School's NJSIAA Group IV Central state championship team. And 93 other players are preparing for next season in the weight room and with conditioning programs set up by Dean Albanese with help from football coach Walter Currie.

      BTHS girls track has mixed results in relay
            It's not just the relentless rainfall that has made for an odd season for Brick Township High School's girls track and field team during the outdoor season. "In terms of the rain, this has been our worst spring in 10 years," Brick Township High coach Bill Brunner said. "It's not good for progress.

      Sports Shorts
            A senior golf tournament, sponsored by the Ocean County Parks and Recreation, will be held May 7 at the Ocean County Golf Course at Atlantis, located on Country Club Boulevard in Little Egg Harbor. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The fee is $27 per person and includes green fees and awards. The rain date is May 14.
