Parrot Heads still looking for walkathon donations

On May 9, a team of Coastal Jersey Parrot Heads (CJPHC) joined the Step Up Walkathon for the Arc of Ocean County in Pine Park, Lakewood. The Arc provides programs and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

A record number of walkers from the community and group homes rallied in support of the Arc on an usually warm early May day. The weeklong rains left, and predictions of more for the day thankfully proved wrong.

As CJPHC team leader, I set a goal to raise at least $2,000 to help maintain the Arc's Primary Care Center in Toms River. The Parrot Head team handed out strands of colorful Mardi Gras beads to all present.

The fundraising page, www.firstgiving.com/arc-ocean, will remain active and be able to accept online donations until mid- August 2009. The Arc will also accept checks mailed at any time to 815 Cedar Bridge Road, Lakewood, NJ 08701 Coastal Jersey Parrot Heads meet 6-9 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Mantoloking Road Pub in Brick for an informal happy hour.

Anyone interested in joining a local Parrot Head Club in Monmouth and Ocean County is invited to meet with members. For more information and details, go to www.cjphc.org.
