Soldier awaits fate for refusing to kill people in battle

In a recent newspaper article it was reported that Pfc. Daniel Marble of Seaside Heights went Absent Without Leave (AWOL) after finishing basic training with the Army. His reasoning: "I am simply not capable of taking a life, I don't want to kill someone and live with that for the rest of my life."

He turned himself in and is awaiting his fate.

As of this writing nearly one month has elapsed. As a citizen and a reader I want the press to give us all an update on the status of Pfc. Marble.

Gandhi of India declared that he would fight for freedom, but not kill for freedom. His understanding came from the "Sermon on the Mount." If you destroy human life, even in self-defense, the creator will set up the circumstances where your own life will be taken with the same pain and suffering in which you took a human life, if not in this lifetime, then in a future lifetime within the human condition.

You cannot save a life by taking another life. And when you take a life, you set the worst example for the rest of humanity. Gandhi declared to the West that what we call Christianity in the West is in fact a negation of the "Sermon on the Mount."
