Sports Shorts The third annual Bocce Invitational Tournament will be held 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Colonial Park, Mettlers Road, in Somerset, June 20. Hundreds of amateur and professional bocce players are expected to compete in the daylong event that features matches in both amateur and professional categories. The New Jersey Bocce Invitational is an Italian-American cultural event designed to allow people of all backgrounds to compete for the benefit of local New Jersey charities. Beneficiaries of the event are Operation Shoebox New Jersey, an organization that collects items and ships care packages to combat troops overseas, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of New Jersey. Special guests include Will Jimeno, retired New York & New Jersey Port Authority police officer and inspirational speaker, one of only two people to survive under the rubble on 9/11. His story was told in the Oliver Stone motion picture "World Trade Center." Giada Valenti, singer and songwriter, will perform, as well as comedian and "Saturday Night Live" alumnus Joe Piscopo and vocalist Bobby Valli. The Ocean County College Sailing Team cruised to victory in the Drexel Open regatta May 9, which was sailed out of the Corinthian Yacht Club on the Delaware River in Pennsylvania. OCC built a solid lead on Saturday, but with winds a steady 30 mph and gusts reaching 40 mph on May 10, host club Drexel University canceled Sunday's races for safety reasons. The winning OCC team comprised Brenden Hogan of Brick and his crew, Luci Saraceno of Toms River, sailing in the A fleet, along with Holden Meuhelsen of Tuckerton and his crew, Jamie Wasco of Brick, sailing in the B fleet. Both Hogan and Meuhelsen were leading their divisions after Saturday. In addition to OCC and Drexel, the University of Pennsylvania, George Washington University, Salisbury State University, University of Delaware, American University and Webb Institute competed in the Drexel Open. The Brick Comets, a 13U girls soccer team, is looking for dedicated field players and/or goalie to join the team. Participating in at least five tournaments per year, the team is professionally trained and plays year-round, including indoor in the winter. It is currently a Nat. 2 team moving up to Nat. 1 or Premier this fall. No town residency is required. Open practices are held 6-8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday night in June. A Night Golf Tournament for ages 8 and over will be held at 8 p.m. June 26 at the Ocean County Golf Course at Forge Pond, Brick. The tournament uses glowin the-dark balls and glow sticks to light the nine holes. The rain date is June 27. The cost is $35 per person and includes greens fees and one glow golf ball. The New Jersey Chapter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA-NJ) will hold its eighth annual Golf Classic on June 18 at the Cedar Hill Golf & Country Club, 100 Walnut St., Livingston. This is a rescheduled date. The event could not take place on May 7, the original date, due to weather conditions. Registration and buffet brunch will begin at 1l a.m. Shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m. followed by cocktail reception at 5 p.m., then dinner, awards and a silent auction will follow the Space is available. The Twin County Revolution girls U15 soccer team is looking for serious, skilled and dedicated players for the 2009 fall season. Team Revolution utilizes a paid trainer throughout the regular season and participates in tournaments, summer camps and winter events.
