Brick American preps for Cal Ripken state tourney

      Things are falling into place for Brick American, which will host the Cal Ripken Majors state tournament for 14-year-olds, starting July 17 and ending July 24. Well, almost everything. "This is the one thing we always wanted (to host) and never did when we were with Little League," Brick American President Tom Nerney said.

Brick American A cruises to 3rd straight sr. div. championship

      Brick American's Cal Ripken program moved back the outfield fences to 350 feet in dead center to accommodate the Brick Memorial High School baseball team for night games there. But that didn't slow down the unbeaten Brick American A's, who hit only one home run as a team, from rampaging through the Senior Division for 13- and 14-year-olds to a third straight championship.

      The Reds' determination helped them go from a second-place finish a year ago in the Brick National Cal Ripken Senior Division to the top spot this year. Brick American pounds Brick National, 10-0, in tourney

      WARETOWN — A third showdown this season between Brick National's Nick Zbranak and Brick American's Kyle Cala was expected to be another close game. But Cala made sure it wasn't close in the opener of the Cal Ripken District 2 tournament for 12-year-olds on the evening of June 27, when he led Brick American to a 10-0 blowout at the Waretown Elementary School field.
