      Ocean hopes to topple Monmouth in hockey fundraiser
            Forwards Connor Noonan and Matt Dornacker and defenseman Patrick Kearns all played integral roles in Brick Township's hockey team reaching the NJSIAA tournament quarterfinals last winter in a 12-7-2 season. Now they'll look to help Ocean County break Monmouth's dominance in the 12th annual Jim Dowd Shoot for the Stars Foundation all-star game on Aug.

            He's been the quiet man behind the scenes. But Jeff Thompson has been an integral part in the success of Ray Mannon's Brick American Cal Ripken All-Star teams. Thompson, a coach who works on fielding and hitting with the 12-year-old Majors All-Stars, has been Mannon's sidekick for 10 years of all-star play.

      Brick National 11s and 9s finish up season in state finals
            It was a tough weekend for Brick National's Cal Ripken 11- and 9-year-old All-Star teams as both went down in the state finals. After Brick National's 9s knocked Montgomery into the loser's bracket, 9-7, on July 30, the two teams met again in the state finals at Brick National on Aug. 1. Coming out of the loser's bracket, Montgomery swept a doubleheader, 6-5 and 6-4.

      Brick American 12s fighting to make it to World Series
      Cala, Franzione injured in game against Pennsylvania team
            Just about everyone on the Brick American Major 12-year-old All- Star team has had a turn in the spotlight this summer. But now team members will have to step up, with two big contributors — Kyle Cala and Patrick Franzione — injured, and the team coming into this week with a must-win situation in the Cal Ripken Mid-Atlantic Region tournament in Bridgewater.

      Brick National Big League makes it to World Series
            Brick National's state championship Big League team faced an uphill battle in the Cal Ripken World Series at Widener College in Chester, Pa., this week. The team lost its opener, 4-2, to host Delaware County, Pa., on July 31, but bounced back the following day against Baltimore, 8-3. The Aug.

            Twin County Soccer of Brick will hold registration for its fall 2009 micro and rec soccer program. Registration starts at $65 for the spring and fall season. The single season fee is $55 and each additional sibling can register for an additional $35. Registration is open to girls and boys that will be 4 to 8 years old by Feb. 1, 2010.
