      Library will celebrate Lighthouse Challenge
            Several branches of the Ocean County Library will host lighthouse-themed programs to celebrate the 10th annual New Jersey Lighthouse Society's Lighthouse Challenge, which seeks to raise awareness of the 24 lighthouses in New Jersey.

      Large coin show slated for Sept. 12
            The largest coin show at the Jersey Shore will take place 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Laurelton Fire House, Route 88, Brick. Last year, over 300 individuals attended the show, which included 30 tables of dealers and eight exhibits put on by club members. Dealers with coins, paper money, tokens and medals and will be available to buy, sell and/or trade.

      Good Neighbor Day scheduled for Sept. 9
            Residents of Ocean County will have the opportunity to meet each other and develop new friendships when Flowers by Addalia presents its annual Good Neighbor Day event on Sept. 9. Beginning at 9 a.m., the Toms River and Brick-based florist, will give away 6,000 roses in bunches of a dozen, free to anyone who visits the shop, while supplies last.

      Boating safety course dates scheduled
            U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 16- 05 of Brick will be presenting "About Boating Safety" on Oct. 3. Classes will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and all will be held at the Brick Civic Plaza. 270 Chambers Bridge Road, Brick.

            The Brick Township Historical Society will hold the opening meeting of its new season 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Herbertsville Firehouse, 601 Herbertsville Road, Brick. Kati B. Brower, an actress from Matawan, will present a first-person depiction of Constance Merriweather, a pilgrim who migrated to Plymouth Plantation in 1620.

      Dance will benefit animal center Aug. 22
            A country and western dance for the benefit of the Jersey Shore Animal Center will be held 7-11 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Toms River Elks Club, 600 Washington St., Toms River.
