Historical society to visit Staten Island
      The Brick Township Historical Society is sponsoring a trip to Staten Island, N.Y., Oct. 17. The trip includes bus transportation, a ferry ride, a tour guide, a visit to the Snug Harbor Cultural Center, the Chinese Scholars Garden and the Alice Austin House, and gratuities for both the tour guide and the bus driver. Columbus Day parade slated for Oct. 11
      The 18th annual Ocean County Columbus Day Parade will be held Oct. 11 on the Boulevard in Seaside Heights at 1 p.m. According to Michael Blandina, parade chairman, many new organizations and groups will be participating for the first time this year. Annual favorites such as the Sicilian Cart, the Italian Gondola and the Italian Brass Band will be returning as well.

Annual carnival to be held Sunday
      The Church of the Visitation, 755 Mantoloking Road, Brick, will hold its annual family carnival 1:30 to 6 p.m. Sept. 20. All are welcome. Admission is free and the day's festivities will include the live band "Thick as Thieves," as they feature sounds from 1950s through the 1980s.
