            BRICK TOWNSHIP — Warren Wolf wasted no time calling new football coach Patrick Dowling to congratulate him the night the Green Dragons won their first game of the season. Wolf called Dowling just minutes after he learned that the football team had won the season opener.

      Mustangs throttle Freehold Twp. in Shore Conference game
            Brick Memorial High School's triple option is an equal opportunity offense: whoever gets the ball depends on what the defense shows. Vin Sabba got that opportunity and got back into the spotlight that he earned last season as the Mustangs rolled over Freehold Township, 24-12, in a Shore Conference American Division game at home.

      Green Dragons win over Mid'town North on field goal
            Football is a game of inches. But in the case of Brick Township High School's team, it was a game of a foot — the foot of kicker Patrick Kearns — on Sept. 25. Kearns hit a field goal from 25 yards out, his second this season, with seven minutes left as the Green Dragons beat Middletown North, 3-0, in a Shore Conference Constitution Division away game.

            BRICK TOWNSHIP — Coach Bill Caruso could not remember the last time that Brick Memorial High School's girls soccer team went scoreless for three games in a row.

      Graham making his mark at University of Wisconsin
            Tight end Garrett Graham of Brick has made himself more of a factor for the University of Wisconsin football team as the season has gone along. And he had perhaps his greatest day on Sept. 26, when he scored three touchdowns on pass receptions as the Badgers beat Michigan State, 38-30, in Madison, Wisc.

      Brick teams shine in Pop Warner action over the weekend
            The Brick Dragons Junior Midgets and Junior Pee Wee White teams stayed hot in the hunt for first place in their respective divisions with their biggest games this weekend in the Jersey Shore Pop Warner Football League. Coach Al Russo's Dragons Junior Midgets beat Howell, 14-0. No one has scored against them in four games.

      Dedication is name of game for Brick Memorial girls tennis team
            Brick Memorial High School's girls tennis team contended for Shore ConferenceASouth championship honors all the way to the final match last season in a 17- 5 campaign, 12-2 in the conference. Although that may not happen again this season, since the team split its first six matches, the Mustangs are still creating plenty of excitement.

      Sports Shorts
            The 8th annual 95.9 RAT Rock Open Charity Golf Classic begins with registration at 7 a.m. Oct. 5 at Eagle Ridge Golf Club, 2 Augusta Blvd., Lakewood. Shotgun start is 8 a.m. with a scramble (best ball) format. The tournament will take place on the newly constructed back nine of Eagle Ridge.
