Sports Shorts The 8th annual 95.9 RAT Rock Open Charity Golf Classic begins with registration at 7 a.m. Oct. 5 at Eagle Ridge Golf Club, 2 Augusta Blvd., Lakewood. Shotgun start is 8 a.m. with a scramble (best ball) format. The tournament will take place on the newly constructed back nine of Eagle Ridge. The event, sponsored by Monmouth University, Long Branch, and hosted by Greater Media radio station 95.9 WRAT and the LADACIN Network (formerly Cerebral Palsy of Monmouth and Ocean Counties), will help raise money for better equipment and programs for those with cerebral palsy. The cost of $225 per golfer includes continental breakfast, buffet lunch, 1½- hour open bar, greens fees, golf cart, gift bags and a gift auction. Prizes will be given for the longest drive, closest to the pin, hole-in-one and "beat the pro." Lunch only is $50 per person and includes prizes, raffles, auctions and a 50/50 raffle. The Ocean County College sailing team qualified for the War Memorial Regatta, the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Championships, after their performance at the MAISA Fall Qualifying Regatta, held Sept. 19 at the Toms River Yacht Club. Sailing for OCC were Jamie Wasco and Kristin Kilar, both of Brick. The Elks Soccer Shootout, sponsored by the Twin County Soccer of Brick and the Brick Elks, will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Drum Point Sports Complex, Brick. The program is open to all age groups through and including U14. All children need to fill out the age appropriate application prior to the event. The 11th annual golf outing sponsored by the Ocean County Foundation for Vocational Technical Education will be held Sept. 21 at Pine Ridge Golf Course, Lakehurst.
