Wins don't come often for the Brick Township High School girls tennis team, but with only one senior — captain Brianna Ashenfelter — in first singles, the prospects are bright for next season.

"We're coming along and getting better," said coach Bob Hudak after the team started off 2-12 and got its first Shore Conference A South victory in nine outings against Southern Regional High School. "We have a lot of players who can come back next season."

Sophomore Emily Gaydos is the brightest prospect, with four victories in second singles during that stretch.

"She's been the most consistent," Hudak said. "She keeps the ball in play with good ground strokes. She keeps improving and keeps her mistakes to a minimum."

Junior Alexis Marino also shows good ground strokes in third singles, while Hudak also praised the determination of his doubles players. They include Alex Maggio and Jessica Joseph in first doubles, and Nicole Hung in second doubles with either Sara Sisselman or Presley Miguel.
