Reader offers suggestions to cut school district costs In the aftermath of the defeat of the referendum regarding school repairs, it has been suggested that the voters did not fully understand what they were being asked. There have been comments and quotes from Superintendent of Schools Mr. Hyrcenko; Board of Education President Mr. Woska; school Business Administrator James Edwards; and state Commissioner of Education Lucille Davy. I understood exactly what the questions on the referendum were asking for. However, what I do not understand is why maintenance would ever be cut when a school budget is defeated. There should always be budgeted dollars for repair and replacement. Don't ever take maintenance out. Take out top-heavy administration. Take out running a bus company. Put in meaningful contributions to health care plans. But, always leave in money for maintenance! If we needed boilers, why did I vote for solar panels? Carole Beal Brick |
