      OCC will offer NJ Stars info session
            An NJ Stars information session will be held 6 p.m. Nov. 17. The statewide program provides students in the top 15 percent of their graduating class the opportunity to attend a New Jersey community college for the first two years for free.

      BYC will hold dances Nov. 13, Dec. 4, 18
            The Brick Youth Club (BYC) will hold dances for the remainder of the year on Nov. 13, Dec. 4 and Dec. 18. There will be more dances announced soon, going into 2010. Dances are open to middle school students only.A ll dances begin at 7 p.m. and end at 9:30 p.m. Reservations for dances are necessary and will be taken from the Monday prior to the event through Thursday night.

      BYC slates two open gym times
            The Brick Youth Club (BYC) offers two open gym programs. Open gym basketball for middle and high school students is available from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday. Open gym volleyball is also available for boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 18 to play every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Advance registration is not required for either program.

      Sisterhood collecting canned goods
            The Sisterhood of Temple Beth Or is collecting kosher and non-kosher canned goods for Kol Nidre. Items can be brought to the temple at 200 Van Zile Road and will be distributed to local food pantries in Brick. Details: 732-458-4700.

      Crash course on boys offered to teen girls
            Author Sarah O'Leary Burningham will visit the Brick branch of the Ocean County library, 301 Chambers Bridge Road, 7 p.m. Nov. 18 to discuss her book, "Boyology: A Teen Girl's Crash Course in All Things Boy." "Boyology" examines and explores questions that teen girls have about the mysteries of teenage boys.

      New traffic patterns are now in effect
            New traffic patterns went into effect Sept. 18 at the intersection of Route 70 and Cedar Bridge Avenue, Brick. A new traffic signal on the west side of Cedar Bridge Avenue was turned on at 5 a.m., Sept. 18. The signal helps with the flow of traffic around a new jughandle, which is used for motorists heading south on Route 70 or west on Cedar Bridge Avenue.

      P.T.A. will host Field Yard Sale Nov. 14
            The Herbertsville P.T.A. will host its first Field Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 14 in the field behind the school at 2282 Lanes Mill Road. A rain date has been set for Nov. 15. A $15 fee will reserve a lawn space that is 12 feet by 12 feet. Only the first 65 vendors will be accepted.

      MOMS Club slates craft/vendor fair
            The MOMS Club of Brick will hold its first annual craft/vendor fair 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Brick Civic Center, 270 Chambers Bridge Road. Vendors will include Tupperware, Silpada, Tastefully Simple, PartyLite, Mary Kay and many more as well as many area crafters and raffles.

      WJRZ sponsors 'Share the Joy' charity drive Nov. 20-21
            WJRZ, Greater Media radio station 100.1, will conduct its annual live radio broadcast "Share the Joy" at the Wal-Mart, Route 37 East, Toms River, to help fill a tractor-trailer with donations of food, clothing, and toys, beginning 6 a.m. Nov. 20 and continuing through Nov. 21 until the truck is filled.

      Kiwanis will hold scrapbooking event
            The Brick Kiwanis Club will hold a scrapbooking event 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 15 at the VFW on Adamston Road in Brick. The event costs $35 and includes light breakfast, lunch, dinner, vendors on hand, and room for scrapbooking. Proceeds will be donated to Kiwanis and local charities.

            Operation Medicine Cabinet New Jersey, a statewide drive to safely dispose of commonly abused, expired or unused medication, will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Brick First Aid building, 500 Aurora Drive; the Brick Police Department, 401 Chambers Bridge Road; and the Herbertsville Firehouse, 601 Herbertsville Road.

            Nominations are now open for the 15th annual Animal Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place Feb. 28 during a public awards luncheon at the Hamilton Park Conference Center in Florham Park. For 14 years New Jersey's veterinarians have been honoring special animals that make an indelible impact on the lives of the people around them.
