      Estimates for beach and dune erosion total nearly $2M, mayor says

      The Brick Township Board of Education has proposed shaving nearly $78 million off the original $172.9 million referendum that voters soundly defeated in September.       Mrs. Vela, 75, of Keyport, died Nov. 8, 2009, at home. She was employed in customer service at Prudential Insurance Co., Holmdel, for 15 years, retiring in 1991. Mrs. Vela is survived by her husband, Frank M. Vela; two daughters, Valerie Ulrich of Brick and Tracey Doyle of Neptune; and three grandchildren. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
