      Both high schools hope to be wrestling powerhouses again
            Wrestling often commands the spotlight during the high school winter sports season in Brick. And both high school teams might make it the state's hotbed for wrestling after they both cracked the top 25 in the rankings last year. Practice begins on Nov. 27.

      BTHS's new coach has a strong nucleus of swimmers
            BRICK TOWNSHIP — There have been only a few days of practice, but Darren St. Jean is quickly getting accustomed to some different surroundings as the new coach of the Brick Township High School girls swim team.       Brodeur an asset to Duke, despite illnesses and injuries
            BRICK TOWNSHIP — Andrew Brodeur, one of the greatest cross country runners that Brick Memorial High School ever had before he graduated two years ago, helped Duke University's cross country team to qualify for the NCAA championships for the first time since 2001.

      Brick Memorial's Goelz a bright spot
            BRICK TOWNSHIP — Andrew Goelz, coming off a fine cross country season for Brick Memorial High School's boys team, will join some fine prospects when indoor track and field practices kicks off on Nov. 30. Coach Al Cuthbert said that Goelz, a junior, showed "quite a bit of improvement from the previous year" with some fine efforts in the big meets.

      Sports Shorts
            Garrett Graham of Brick continues to come up with big plays for the bowl-bound University of Wisconsin football team. The senior tight end has 35 receptions for 404 yards and caught his fifth touchdown pass of the season in a 45-24 victory over Michigan on Nov. 14, the third straight victory for the 8-2 Badgers.
